These amazing looking beetles are commonly known as DOMINO BEETLES due to their pattern of white spots on a black body.  Domino beetles are a large species of tiger beetle from India.

Tiger beetles come in all manner of colours and sizes and all are predatory ground beetles.  As you can see in the pictures below they have very large and fearsome-looking mandibles (mouthparts).  They hunt on the ground and use these huge mandibles to grab various smaller creatures prior to eating them!

Tiger beetles can be very fast-running and in fact it is said that they are one of the fastest animals in the world for their size.  Some scientists have estimated that if tiger beetles were proportionately the same size as people they would be able to run at 300 miles per hour!

I have bought myself a small group of domino beetles in the hope that I might be able to successfully breed them myself, and here they are in a part of their new home!
