These
absolutely beautiful snakes are baby
BOA CONSTRICTORS just
like the fabulous Boaz! They were both born on July 18th
2008 and were bred by good friends of mine in
Stoke-on-Trent. All boas give birth to live
babies, unlike pythons and many other snakes which
lay eggs. These are just two of 25 babies
which the female gave birth to all on the same day!!

The
pictures below show just how tiny they are, fitting
in the palm of my hand! I received them on
October 18th 2008, when they were just three months
old, and they weighed 83g and 90g. This is quite
different to the 5.8kg or 5,800g
which Boaz weighed on the same day, in fact this is
equal to only about 1.5% of
Boaz' body weight!!!

I've not
yet decided on names for these two but will update
this page as and when I do. The problem with
snakes is that it is impossible to tell whether they
are male or female just by looking at them, and the
only way to be sure is to insert a sterilised metal
rod or probe inside their bottom. This is
something which I am not experienced in doing and
therefore will not do, as the snake can be badly
injured if you get it wrong. For the time
being I am quite happy to not know whether they are
male or female and I will think of neutral names for
them!
One day
I discovered the two of them sat together in a
huddle, it looked like they were cuddling each other
and I thought it was really cute...

The
pictures below show how beautiful the tail markings
of these babies are, with the rich orangey-red
colour being one of my favourite things about baby
boas! They also have a lovely pale pink-coloured
tint to their skin at the moment, which you can see
particularly clearly in the two pictures above.

I will
update this page to show how these lovely snakes
grow and change in the coming months!
