These
fabulous stick insects are Kylie and Danni, two
adult females of a species of Australian stick
insect named Onchestus rentzi, more commonly
known as the CROWNED STICK
INSECT due to their unusual head structures!

As you
can see above they are certainly stick insects which
truly do resemble sticks and the images below
clearly show their unusual head structures!

The ova
(eggs) of this species also have a particularly
unusual shape. Many stick insect ova have a
distinctive shape, colour or pattern which is unique
to that particular species and this is no exception!

Newly
hatched nymphs of Onchestus rentzi are quite small
and fragile-looking, being particularly slender and
long-legged as you can see below!

As they
develop they become much more like their parents as
you can see here!
