This
beautiful looking snake is a juvenile male
FIREFLY ROYAL PYTHON named Ray!

Ray is
different from my other royal pythons
Rafiki and Aziza
firstly in terms of his colouration, which is much
more yellowish and bright overall as is always the
case in the 'Firefly' colour morph, but secondly in
that he was sadly born with a neurological
condition. Royal pythons are bred in huge
numbers in the UK and come in an amazing and
ever-growing variety of colour and pattern forms (or
morphs), in some of which this particular
neurological condition is not uncommon.

Basically the neurological condition makes Ray's
head and neck 'wobble' as he is moving around, such
that it sometimes looks as though he has little to
no control over his movements which can be quite
erratic. In every other way he is entirely
healthy in that he feeds without a problem, he sheds
his skin perfectly and he is a very friendly,
non-aggressive snake.

The
breeder who produced Ray didn't want him to be bred
himself because whilst he is a lovely snake in every
way there is a good chance that the condition could
be passed to Ray's babies, which he understandably
didn't think it would be ethical to allow to happen.
He therefore donated Ray to my Jungle Roadshow
collection because he knew that I would have no
interest in breeding Ray and also that he would be
used in an educational way to show people that
snakes with such disabilities deserve our respect
and appreciation too!
