This
beautiful snake is a
CENTRALIAN PYTHON (also commonly known as
BREDL'S PYTHON) which
in the wild is found in the dry southern part of
Australia's Northern Territory, around the area of
Alice Springs, where they spend much of their time
in trees. Like all my snakes this individual
was bred in captivity and he hatched in 2007.
I have decided to name him Rolf after Rolf
Harris, who was a bit of a hero of mine during my
early childhood!

As you can hopefully see
from these pictures Rolf has an exquisitely
beautiful pattern, made up mainly of red/orange,
cream and black scales. The centralian python
is one of many Australian species known widely as
carpet pythons (and the most attractive species of
these in my opinion), due to their skin resembling
beautiful oriental rugs and carpets as you can see
here!

When I bought Rolf in
November 2010 (when all of the above pictures were
taken) he measured just over five feet (or 1.5
metres) so he has a bit of growing still to do as
this species can reach up to just over 8 feet in
length (2.5 metres).

Children and adults alike love
Rolf because he is an exceptionally friendly chap
and very calm at all times including whilst being
handled!
