Visits to Schools / Colleges & Pre-schools

I am able to offer a wide range of workshops designed to enrich and bring to life many areas of the science National Curriculum from the Foundation Stage right through to Key Stage 4 and beyond, using a diverse selection of fantastic animals as the focus of the sessions.  Children or students will be provided the opportunity, wherever  possible in relation to time and group sizes, to touch or handle some of these animals, thereby experiencing them in a way they may never otherwise have the opportunity to.

I am also able to offer sessions which show some of these amazing animals REALLY close up!!  By using a video camera's super-macro function and a suitably connected big screen (interactive whiteboard / projector / large panel TV) it is possible to show children or students tiny details of the animals which they would usually NEVER get to see other than on wildlife documentaries!

Many thanks to Richard Blake, Joint Head of Science at St. Joseph's Catholic College, Swindon for these pictures

This service is available to all schools / settings subject to certain conditions being met to ensure a high-quality experience.  These include the appropriate equipment being available, that one suitably equipped room can be used for all sessions during my stay in school and that sessions are of suitable length for the experience being offered.  This type of workshop particularly suits a longer session and many schools book this service for one class for a whole morning or afternoon, but larger groups can be catered for in this way also.

Workshop topics

Whilst many of the workshops are tailored to meet the requirements of the science curriculum  and QCA schemes of work (or associated schemes) for specific year groups, each topic can be adapted for children of any age, including Foundation Stage 2 and pre-school children.

Sessions are also available both to schools and pre-schools which provide an emphasis on topics which by themselves do not necessarily fit into the QCA scheme such as:

Minibeasts  Children will get to meet a wide range of fascinating insects and other invertebrates up close and personally, and to learn some amazing facts about them!

Rainforests  Children will get the opportunity to meet lots of animals which live in different parts of the rainforest (and from rainforests all over the world), from the dark jungle floor right up to the canopy of the trees!

Wildlife Conservation  A subject close to my heart, children will learn about what it means for an animal to be endangered and what we can all do to help those which are, and how to make a contribution to prevent others from becoming endangered.

Finally, sessions can be 'JUST FOR FUN' and not have a focus on any particular topic, but simply be an opportunity for children to meet these amazing animals up close and personally!
